Becoming a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist in Wyoming

A marriage and family therapist can diagnose and treat emotional and mental disorders in families, individuals, and couples. Education Requirements for Marriage and Family Therapist Licensing in Wyoming

To become licensed as a marriage and family therapist education must be completed at the master's level. In addition, that education must be completed at an educational institution that is accredited by the COAMFTE Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education or by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs- Marriage and Family Counseling (CACREP-MCFC). Supervised Professional Experience Requirement for a Marriage and Family Therapist

Before becoming a licensed therapist, an applicant must be able to prove supervised training and work experience. According to Chapter 10 of the Rules and Regulations of Mental Health Professions licensing board, at least, 3000 hours of supervised training must be obtained after the completed of an accredited master degree program. Of the 3000 hours, at least 1200 hours must include direct client contact. To attest to an applicant's integrity, character, and professionalism in marriage and family therapy, three recommendations are necessary.

Examinations for the Marriage and Family Therapists License in Wyoming

After successful completion of the education and supervised hours, an applicant must also pass an exam accredited by the Association of Marital and Family Therapy Regulatory Board (AMFTRB). This final step tests an applicant's knowledge to qualify for licensure. He or she should be able to successfully pass the exam demonstrating the knowledge necessary to enter the field of marriage and family therapy at the entry level.

On the AMFTRB site there is an opportunity to take mock exams to help prepare for the exam. The questions on the mock tests once appeared on previous exams but has since been removed. These prep exams are formatted in the same way as an actual exam. You are allotted 120 minutes to take each mock exam. The cost associated with taking a prep test is $60.
